CHAMPION, SVP's motto, had a bit of a facelift over the holiday break. The letter M, which used to represent moral, was changed to mindful.
In Grade 7 English, we are trying to incorporate this word into our daily lessons through the use of an interactive journal. Students spent one class period setting up their journals and dividing into sections including vocabulary, grammar notes, language notes, journaling and a place for students to keep a list of books they read throughout the school year. One purpose of this journal is for students to work on organizing the information they receive during their English lesson, which they can later use on their English summative assessments.
Another aspect of this journal is the actual journaling section - a space where students can write down their thoughts and feelings on a number of different subjects. This is where the mindfulness comes in, as writing is a way for students to be more present and aware of the thoughts they are having and possibly problem solve certain issues through their writing. We will continue to work on and develop this skill throughout the school year.
If you're interested in what this interactive journal looks like, ask your student to share it during the 3 Way Conference (3WC) on Friday and Saturday, 7-8 October!
