Students in Grade 11 have been working diligently over the past few weeks, as they have been learning a new skill: how to write a Cambridge-worthy commentary.
After reading the short story, "Shooting an Elephant", students worked together in groups, analyzing the passage, creating PEE charts and preparing for their assessment of writing a 250-450 word commentary about the passage. For many students, this was the first time critically analyzing a piece of literature, which is no easy feat. Still, all students persevered through the writing process and wrote their commentaries during Weeks 6 & 7 of Term 1.
Grade 11 students will continue to learn how to analyze literature and develop their writing skills throughout the remainder of the year, in preparation for their Cambridge AS exams in May/June 2017. If you're interested in reading your student's writing, ask them to share their commentary with you during the 3 Way Conference (3WC) during Friday and Saturday, 7-8 October.
