The Grade 8s have just completed their first unit of the year. With the theme, "Who am !?" students explored this critical question by reflecting on their identities and exploring their unique attributes and traits. One area of special focus was to determine their unique learning styles, as well as their dominant intelligence types. This proved to be fascinating and informative and besides learning more about themselves, students also learnt how to harness these strengths and adapt the way they study.
Through the course of reflecting on themselves, the students also learnt about the power of symbolism as a means of communication. The learning culminated in the students combining knowledge of self with knowledge of symbolism to create, first, their own logo, and later a coat of arms. Students were required to combine a number of elements to symbolically represent themselves.
The results were nothing short of extraordinary and the students rose to the occasion by producing work of the highest standard. Besides the final products, the students also impressed with their design processes, as well as their descriptions of the respective logos and coats of arms.
